Golden Star
Golden star is a low, trailing plant with small, daisylike, bright yellow flowers and vivid green leaves. It is useful either in sun or shade, and is particularly delightful when grown against or around rocks.
Chrysogonum must have excellent drainage and prefers a sandy soil high in organic matter. The soil should be fairly dry and of only average fertility. Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart.
The flowers appear in mid-June to frost and are produced along the joints of trailing, leafy, stems. The bright green leaves are small and round, about an inch across, and are densely produced. Most varieties sold commercially have gray-green foliage.
The plant has a loose, open habit that follows the contour of the ground and rocks. It usually grows 2 to 4 inches high, and rarely exceeds 8 inches. It often spreads into a loose mat with stems rooting where they touch the soil. Golden star is always restrained in growth and never intrusive, seldom exceeding a spread of 12 to 20 inches.
