The perfect conditions for outdoor living and growing are rare, even in the best of climates. The sun may be too hot at midday, the evenings may be too chilly, or strong winds may make your favorite sitting area uncomfortable. In those situations, some degree of protection is necessary if you want to get maximum use and enjoyment from your outdoor space. On the other hand, shade that covers too much of the garden, or very dense shade produced by a few overgrown trees, will need to be modified by pruning or other means for you to get full use from your garden.
